The Liceo Scientifico "Vitruvio" is one of the largest General Education Upper Secondary schools in Abruzzo with a total number of 1500 students aged 14-19. Our Institution provides both classical and scientific subjects in order to deepen the interconnections between them, the relations between scientific theory on the one hand and literary, artistic and philosophical ones. We also have a Sport department. Every year a "Settimana della Cultura Scientifica e Tecnologica" (Science Festival) is held at our school, a project entirely devoted to Science and its connections to other school subjects. The Liceo Scientifico "Vitruvio" has been awarded a special prize for this project by the Turin-sieged "Fondazione Sanpaolo". Recently our students and teachers have been involved in yearly Intercultural Exchange programmes with other European Institutions in Holland, Belgium, Poland, Serbia, Denmark, Portugal, Slovakia Israel and Spain. The aim is to enhance both students and teachers' motivation through a series of Key actions among which the most important is giving the school a more European and International dimension. Every year more and more students apply for a one-year education experience abroad: we have had students in the US, Denmark, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Russia, China. At the same time we have hosted students from Germany, Turkey, Japan and Iceland. These experiences have had a very high impact on the school community contributing to creating a very positive learning environment. Teachers regularly attend in-service training sessions thanks to ERASMUS KA1 and introduce their new competences and skills in their daily teaching activity. We provide extracurricular English afternoon classes and, as both a  ambridge Preparation and Certification Centre, students take exams every year.

We have seven CAMBRIDGE classes with a special Cambridge curriculum becoming, as a matter of fact, a bilingual school, in fact two years ago we were appointed CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL (IT073) and, so far, this experience is to be considered successful because the impact on students and teachers has been outstanding. Since we have started staff training sessions funded by the EU concerning CLIL and enhancing language skills among teachers, motivation has grown rapidly pushing us forward in applying for new opportunities. Two years ago we started an ERASMUS+ KA2 project with six more European partners (AT, B, NL, E, MK and GR) as the leading applicant organisation and we held a Conference on CLIL on the 26th January and had the privilege of hosting Mrs Gisella Langé in our town together with the first transnational meeting. Last year we were appointed as leading Institution by our USR, as far as Language Training and CLIL methodology is concerned in the Province of L'Aquila. Thanks to this project 25 teachers from different schools were trained in Language skills both on-line and in classroom activities by the "Vitruvio" Language staff members. The course was funded by MIUR. We are ready to work on more topics and projects at the same time giving the best we can to improve our position as a leading school and an example of good practice. Last April thanks to PON, we were granted a classroom 3.0. Thanks to this project we want to realize a "room" used by all our students, which allows teachers to focus on new teaching methodologies based on a complete cooperation between teacher and student and to enhance students' knowledge development in an easy and direct way. We have become leading school for digital training activities and now we are training digital experts from other schools in different areas attaining to ICT.
